KCS and MK

We asked questions to each other with the easi-speak. Then we took photos with the camera. We add the images and the audio into voicethread.

LMcC and CA

We worked together to ask questions. I asked LMcC about what happened at the sharing session to see what happened because I wasn't there.

CB and HA

HA interviewed CB about what she did at the sharing session on Wednesday.

PM and BC

We interviewed each other and then we uploaded from the easi-speak.

AL and JD

I interviewed AL about Wednesday.

Digikidz Sharing Session by KND, GV and LW

We took turns interviewing each other about the Digikidz sharing session and then added them to a voicethread so we could practise using the digital camera, easi-speaks and have a turn with voicethread.
WALT: Interview a friend about the Digikidz sharing session last week.
WILF: Ask at least 3 questions, practise interviewing before recording with the equipment, use the equipment effectively (clear speaking voice with medium speed and volume; no blurry photos), work with a friend from a different Pod.

Group from Room 8 learning to Create Kid Pix Animations

Room 8 don't have their own class blog so we are sharing their work on the Digikidz blog as two of the Pod 1 Digikidz, JD and LMcC, were in the group as well.  WALT: Create a Kiwiana Kid Pix animation and WILF: Simple idea, 4 or 5 pictures, pictures saved in My Documents, Kiwiana theme.  The children are very quickly becoming Kid Pix experts and are much more confident using Mr Oops when they make mistakes.

Can you identify the Kiwiana theme in each animation?  Do you think each one meets the WILF?

KND helping JW and SMcL with Animation

This morning Ms F worked with the room 4 children on animation.  WALT: Create an animation in Kid Pix and the WILF: Each picture saved into My Documents; Each picture saved with a number at the end (1, 2, 3, 4 etc); Kiwiana theme; Simple picture.

It was the first time the group had created animations in Kid Pix and it was quite busy because there was only KND, Ms F and Mrs M to help the children.  Next time Ms F thinks we should have more Digikidz to help us!

Here are the finished animations.  Can you tell the Kiwiana theme in each one?

More Digikidz Animations

KND has finished her animation now.  She decided to show a Kingfisher swooping down and catching its prey, a tasty fish, from the river:

PM and AL created animations with traditional Kiwiana animals, can you guess what they are?

First try at Creating Animations!

This afternoon the Pod 2 Digikidz worked with Ms F to create animations in Kid Pix. We each had a different idea and we found out some were trickier to do than others! These were: melting hokey pokey ice cream, kingfisher catching a fish, rugby ball being kicked, cow eating hay, cake baking in the oven, sheep eating hay, drinking a glass of L&P.

Here are 4 finished animations by GV, KCS, CA and KA and the rest will be posted as soon as they are finished. Do you know what each animation is about? We are going to add audio next time, do you think that would make our work even better?

Some of our ideas were linked to our Kiwiana inquiry for this Term.  Can you tell which ones these are?

Creating Kid Pix Animations

This morning the Pod 2 Digikidz got together to look at some animations. We visited Team Two Tall Tales and looked at their fantastic volcano animations then Ms F showed us one she had made very quickly with just pictures. Then we shared some ideas quickly about things we could create to practise making an animation. We even suggested some ideas for Kiwiana animations linked to our current inquiry.

Word cloud made with WordItOut

Next week we will plan out our ideas and start drawing and saving the pictures.

Room 5 Digikidz making Kiwiana Kid Pix Drawings

On Wednesday KCS and GV worked with a friend each to help them to create Kid Pix Kiwiana pictures.  We talked together as a group first and thought of lots of different Kiwiana items that we could draw.  Some other children worked by themselves to draw pictures too.  Ms F recorded our ideas in a word cloud:

Pod 2 Digikidz Blogging!

This morning the Pod 2 Digikidz were learning to post a comment on a blog. We visited The Smarties blog and looked at their post about the ACT flag and coat of arms because we are learning about symbols for our theme this Term.  We looked at our visitors map and we haven't had any visitors to our blog from Australia so we are hoping to make friends with the kids from the smarties class!
Here are some photos of us practising posting our comments.  The WILF was positive comments, asking questions and offering advice to improve work.  The children also shared their ideas comparing the New Zealand flag and Coat of Arms with the ACT ones.

Working with JD and LMc in Room 8

We worked together in room 8 this morning to create a picture showing a well known New Zealand symbol.  Can you guess what it is?  Listen to the audio to check!

Using the Thinking Hats to Discuss the Eyjafjallajokull Volcanic Eruption in Iceland

This afternoon the two of the Pod 2 Digikidz, KCS and GV worked with Ms F and the Pod 1 Digikidz to do some thinking about the volcanic eruption in Iceland. We watched a video from youtube showing some of the action from the eruption:

Then we looked at the thinking hats and decided the red, black and green hats were the best ones for us to use today. We are learning to use voicethread so we practised recording our ideas with this WILF: feelings about this situation, negative points about the situation and ideas about what people can do to try and solve the problem. We looked at some photos by Martin Rietze and we uploaded these to voicethread then recorded our ideas:

Pod 1 Digikidz upskilling to use Voicethread

A couple of us got a bit confused today using voicethread and we used the wrong identity to do our recording! We will be careful next time to click on our picture. Can you think of a way we could be reminded next time?

Pod 1 Digikidz using Voicethread

The Pod 1 Digikidz worked with Ms F this morning. We were very busy! We made some pictures in Kid Pix to show something we did in the holidays and then we uploaded them to voicethread and recorded some audio to retell our holiday experience. We all had a practise speaking using the easi-speak and then played the audio back to see if we were ready to record using the headset into voicethread.
WALT: Orally recount a holiday experience adding more detail.
WILF: Clear speaking, moderate volume and speed, confident speaking.
LMC talked to Ms F about what he had to do before he recorded into voicethread. Do you think it helped him to remember everything he had to do well?

Learning about Voicethread and Vocaroo

The Pod 2 Digikidz worked with Ms F this afternoon to learn how to use an online audio recording tool. Some of us used vocaroo and some of us used voicethread. We all practised our talking using the easi-speak to make sure we were doing out very best work.

WALT: Re-tell something that happened during the school holidays.
WILF: Using who, what and where; Speaking clearly and with moderate speed and volume.
Have a listen to our final talks, what do you think? Have we met the success criteria? Do you prefer voicethread where there is a photo to go with the talking or vocaroo which is talking only but very easy to use?

Here is EK telling us about her holidays:

Creating a Kid Pix Slideshow

We have had a lot of difficulty sharing the Kid Pix slideshows we have created as exporting to Quicktime movies hasn't worked for us! Instead Ms F imported our Kid Pix pictures into Photostory and then recorded the audio.
What do you think about our work? Please give us some feedback about what we were learning to do -
WALT: Draw a picture of native NZ flora in Kid Pix and record some information that we learned during our trip to Tahuna Torea or from non-fiction books.
WILF: Correct shape of the leaves and flowers. Correct colours of leaves and flowers. Clear, nicely paced speaking to share correct facts about the flora.

Questions for Room 12 Kids @ Pt England

We have 3 more questions for you to answer please. We liked your comments using video and so we decided to ask our questions using video too. We haven't had a lot of practise doing this yet so we thought about what we wanted to ask, wrote it down and practised before we recorded. We did need to have our questions written down to help us when we were recording. Next time we might feel more confident to do it without the paper! Please do some more videos to answer our questions, we will visit your blog again soon to see what you have to say. Thanks!

Comments for Room 12 You've got the Write Stuff Kids

Hi Everyone

We are two of the Year 2 Digikidz that work with Ms F. We had fun looking at all your neat work on your blog this morning and we have recorded a couple of comments for you using the Easi-Speak because it's quicker for us to say what we think than it is for us to type our ideas and we didn't have a lot of time this morning!

Here are our audio comments:

Tahuna Torea Trip

On Monday the children from Year 0/1 and 2 and their teachers went to Tahuna Torea for a bush walk. They saw lots of native fauna and flora and came back knowing much more about birds and trees especially.

We create a word bank of everything we saw at http://www.wordle.net/:

Ms F worked with some Pod 1 and 2 children to draw leaves and flowers from some of the native trees. Some work is still being finished because the children are finding out some information about the tree they chose to draw and then they will make up a class slideshow in Kid Pix to share their learning with others. Here are some of our drawings. Can you identify the native flora - Titoki, Kawakawa, Pohutukawa and Silver fern?

Pod 2 Digikidz using Kid Pix

We had fun on Wednesday this week drawing pictures of leaves from native trees. Then we found out some facts using a non fiction book and added these to our pictures using the audio tool. But we had the same problem as the Pod 1 Digikidz where all the sound didn't record. Ms F is going to do a Google search to see if she can find out why because we had some really great information and we wanted to share it all!

Pod 1 Digikidz using Kid Pix

It was our turn to have a go at Kid Pix for the first time this week. The Digikidz from rooms 3 and 8 had a turn on Monday and the Digikidz from rooms 1 and 2 had a turn on Wednesday. We created 'me' pictures using the drawing tools and we found it quite hard drawing with the mouse so some of us used the circle and rectangle tools. We were quick to learn how to use the paint bucket tool. Ms F worked with us to add some more information to our pictures using the microphone. We really liked hearing our voices. But when we put the pictures together to make a slideshow some of the sound was missing. Ms F thinks we may need to only have one sentence for each picture. Do you have any advice for us? We will try again next week and it would be great to know why that happened!

Our first go at Kid Pix - Creating our own content.

5 of the Pod 2 Digikidz worked with Ms F today. We worked really hard to draw a self-portrait in Kid Pix. We found it really tricky because of a few things: we were new to using Kid Pix, some of us had a really fast mouse, some of us were drawing using a touch pad on the laptop. We practised using the circle tool, the fill tool, the drawing tool and really liked the pencil for drawing lines and the crayon for doing our hair. Then we used the text tool to type a sentence. Ms F had to help us save our work into our folders. All our pictures are different. Who's work do you like and why?

Helping out in Pod 3

AL and PM were super Digikidz today. Ms F quickly checked what we knew about Sounds Great and it was a lot!

Then we helped teach some Pod 3 boys what to do! That was fun and made us feel proud of ourselves. We were so confident we were happy to show Mrs L what to do too!

Digikidz working with their buddies

We worked with a friend today to help them make a photostory. Ms F interviewed us to see if we felt ready to do this before we started! We decided we were happy to help a friend!

Here is AL helping BC record his narration to describe his photos. It looks like they're having fun! Here are PM and JB working together. JB is watching while PM shows him what to do.

Weekend Photostories

We thought of ideas about things to do at the weekend and made a wordle of our ideas.
Wordle: Weekend
Then we practised taking good photos and made some photostories with our Digikid buddy.
WALT: Take clear photos.
WILF: No blurry photos, Camera held still with 2 hands, Wearing the lanyard to stop the camera being dropped.
We also tried to add music, transitions, audio narration and different coloured fonts to make our videos interesting. What do you think?

Last 2 Photostories - Phew!

The children from Rooms 5 and 6 really enjoyed working with a Digikid who helped them to make their own Fauna and Flora slideshow. See if you can spot examples of Fauna or Flora or both in our Photostories. We tried very hard to make them interesting with different coloured words, tranisitions, background music and our own voices! What do you think everyone?

By EK and I

The rest of our Photostories!

By HO and E. We were able to find some different type of flora in our school. Can you suggest where we could look to find some different fauna?

By GV and R. We found examples of fauna and flora but we don't know if they are all native to New Zealand. Did you notice we used adjectives to add interest?

By PM and E. We tried really hard to type key words and then tell an oral sentence about our photographs on our own.

Learning about Photostory!

We did a form in Google docs to find out what we already knew about Photostory. Look at the graphs below, they show what we thought.

Next we did some practising. We took some photos of fauna and flora in our school grounds and then each Digikid worked with a friend and helped them to make a slideshow. Have a look and see what you think? We did try very hard with our spelling but we didn't get all of the words exactly right!

By AL and J. Can you tell if we took photos of fauna or flora or both?

By CA and N. Do you know the name of the bird we took a photo of? We would like to know its name.

By KND and I. Can you find the tree we named in Maori?
